DTU Space is seeking an applicant for a 3-year fully funded PhD position in magnetometry-based UXO detection and inversion to start in May 2019.
The research field will focus upon a probabilistic inversion approach to analyse magnetic measurements of UXO from three offshore wind farms in the North Sea. The PhD position will be a collaborative effort between DTU Space, University of Århus (Denmark) and the Danish wind farm developer Ørsted A/S.
Magnetometry is a widely used method to detect ferrous Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) in both land and marine enviroments. Clearing a site for UXO is vital, for instance, for the offshore wind farm industry in former war zone areas.

Your main task will be the reduction and analysis of data from transient sources. The data will primarily originate from (but will not be restricted to) the Very Large Telescope, the Swift satellite and the Nordic Optical Telescope. In addition, you are expected to participate in data quality control during the commissioning of the BlackGEM array of telescopes. You will be actively involved in the planning of observations, ensuring the prompt reaction of various telescopes and facilities to new discoveries and you will play a leading role in securing data for these events.

We have the pleasure of announcing a new industrial PhD project together with DTU. Under this project, you’ll be enrolled for three years as an industrial PhD student at the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Photonics Engineering under the Danish industrial PhD programme, and you’ll be employed with us. The project is part of a wider collaboration between Ørsted and DTU concerning solutions for the optimised design, dimensioning and utilisation of transmission systems.
In particular, the project is about reducing invested capital and operating expenditures while optimising cybersecurity of the wind farm OT system. The part you’ll mainly be involved in is SCADA component and OT network topology and function optimisation.

The position is affiliated with the Danish Shellfish Centre (DSC) with main workplace in in Kgs. Lyngby, but it is expected that some wok is carried out in Limfjorden using DSC facilities.
The duties of the senior researcher will primarily focus on research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication/public outreach and research-based advice to public management. We expect the candidate to establish a working group around gelatinous zooplankton and global change impacts on marine ecosystems.
